Have a face to face meeting, without spending a dime on gas. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. With the high price of gasoline....more and more people and companies....are making use of virtual meetings to save money. Video conferencing...which used to mean herky jerky video and audio....has come a long way. The quality has improved on everything from Skype to Windows Live Messenger. And it is most dramatic in some stand alone applications like OoVoo. The two year old company says it is now enabling four million face to face conversations a month. And ...says CEO Philippe Schwartz...
"We can go up to six people on a video call. That's number one. Number two... I think the quality is really impressive and different from what the competition offers. And the ease of use. One of the things that some people find a little bit scary is ..how do I set up my Web cam, what do I have to click to start this conversation...and all that. We made the product extremely easy to use."
The basic version ...which allows up to three people to participate at a time...is free.
There are premium packages. Being able to use the service to make phone calls...costs five dollars a month. Ten dollars a month more adds a variety of features including the ability to have up to six people participate in a video conference that can be recorded as well. Schwartz says the price of gasoline has translated into more traffic for OoVoo....
"You see that people are more and more using the tool in order to avoid a day int eh office, but still be connected to the office."
The latest version of OoVoo...1.7...makes the quality even better. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
