Microsoft Partners With Another Sort of Mouse

Techstination feature for Friday, September 12, 2008

Microsoft partners with a different kind of mouse. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. This time it's a mouse named Mickey. Microsoft has helped Disney create the Innoventions Dream Home at Disneyland...and the idea is to give visitors a taste of some of the cutting edge technology they can buy today....and some that will arrive tomorrow. Microsoft's director of strategic prototyping is Jonathan Cluts....

"There are things that we feature there. Everything from our media center experience where you have access to all of your music and your television shows and your video content wherever you are in house, pretty much on any device or any screen. You have access to some future things in the kitchen where you're able to use technology to help you cook. And just a bunch of fun things that not only do cast members present to you, but also get a chance to experience or use yourself. So it's really a hands-on exhibit as well."

The plan is to continuously update the Dream Home. It's one of the few places around where consumers can experience Microsoft's Surface technology first hand...

"One of the scenarios is the mom of the home will bring in her Windows Mobile device and shake it out on the surface table. And when she does, all the pictures spill out."

Disney got the idea for the new exhibit after some execs paid a visit to Microsoft's Redmond campus and saw the home of the future the company has there. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
