Voice Controlled Bluetooth Headset

Techstination feature for Tuesday, September 16, 2008

A Bluetooth headset....you control with your voice. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Lots of mobile phones have the option of voice dialing. But some, including Apple's iPhone, don't. That's where a new earpiece from BlueAnt comes in. The V1 is small in size but big in features...including the BlueGenie voice control system. Senior VP Peter George....

"You turn it on for the first time, you enter pairing mode, it will basically coach you through how to pair the device to your handset. In the earpiece it kind of tells you what to do next, etcetera, etcetera. Once you're in usage mode, you can do a number of things."

For instance, if you simply say...Check battery.... the V1 will tell you how much battery life is left. While the headset enables voice dialing...it doesn't have addressbook memory. So it won't tell you the names of incoming callers. But there are other valuable features...

"We have partnered with Google with this product Fred and what we've put in there is a speed dial to Goog411. If you're familiar with Goog411, it's their new voice controlled information service. You can see we've had approval to put the Google logo on the box and on the product as well. So once again, a single press and Call Goog411 will go straight through to Goog411's information service."

Which can save you on what can be some pretty hefty charges for information calls from your carrier. The BlueAnt V1 includes a wall charger and car charger and sells for about 130 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
