There aren't many technology products on the market that perform complicated tasks....but are simple to install and use. A company called Ingrid has managed to create a do it yourself home security system that is easy enough for anyone to install...but offers features and capabilities that make great use of available technology. Wireless sensors and now cameras....are part of the system that connects to Internet allowing you to monitor your home from anywhere....and to phone lines for back-up monitoring communications. "And if an alarm happens and the Internet's not available, we'll back up over your phone line. We'll also back up over your neighbor's phone line and the next thing we're coming out with is a cellular gateway that will use the GSM cellular network. And again, if the Internet's not available, the telephone's not available, we'll send the alarm signal over GSM."

Starter kits sell for about 200 dollars...with monitoring costing about 30 dollars a month. And plans are underway to expand the capability into health care monitoring...

"A very large percentage of people who go to emergency rooms go there because they didn't take their medications the way they were supposed to. And so being able to track whether people are taking their pills when they are supposed to be taking it, sending messages to you so your mother doesn't take her medication and it's 2 o'clock in the afternoon, you might wan tot know about it."
