Up Next for Guitar Hero... World Tour

Techstination feature for Monday, October 27, 2008

Up next for Guitar Hero.... World Tour. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It's the biggest hit the music industry has seen in the last three years. Since the first Guitar Hero video game arrived three years ago....sales have topped 22 million. At Activision's Red Octane studios...co-founder Kai and Charles Huang....are still on a roll....expanding game play with the newly released Guitar Hero World Tour. Among the new features...says Charles...

"The first is, this is a full band experience, so you can play up to four players. And the other major feature that we have in Guitar Hero World Tour is GH Tunes, which is ...you now have a way to create your own drum and guitar tracks, record them in Guitar Hero, upload it onto the Internet and other people can download and play your songs that you've created. We like to call it YouTube meets Billboard."

Guitar Hero is actually catching up with its main competition...Rock Band ...in offering the full band experience. It is out with version 2. Guitar Hero World Tour ships with an 86 song library....and the pricing for the band kit...with the drums, guitar and mic....is about 190 dollars. About the possible effects of the economy on sales....Kai Huang says....

"You know, I think everybody's concerned about the economy right now. But one of the things I think is great about video games, particularly Guitar Hero World Tour and a game like that is...it just provides tremendous value for the money."
