The Most Portable Full Page Printer

Techstination feature for Monday, November 17, 2008

The most portable full page printer. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It easily fits into whatever kind of case you carry a notebook computer around in. PlanOn's PrintStik portable printer is about 11 inches across...2 inches tall and an inch thick. It uses an internal roll of thermal paper, has a rechargeable battery and even Blutooth connectivity to print from Windows PCs and certain mobile phones...including Blackberrys. About the market for it, PlanOn marketing manager Andrew Narsingh says...

"Basically anybody who needs to print on the go from their smartphone. From insurance, to printing a receipt, truck drivers, even police officers have used them in some parts of the states for immediate printing...for a direct link from their laptop in their police car. Any litigators that are on the road. "

You can print about thirty pages on a charge...and the cost per page works out to about 50 cents. Keep in mind...there is no ink ....

"This is a thermal technology. Not like your thermal technology from say Best Buy that prints your receipts out and fades in your pocket. This is a seven year print life. The feeling, it comes out straight, it doesn't come out curled out of the unit and quite good quality when you feel it."

That said...the printing can be very light...unless you use a bold setting in your document. You do get higher quality prints from portable ink jets on the market....but extreme portability is the PrintStik's biggest selling point. The price, about 300 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
