Sling Serves Up More Video on the Web

Techstination feature for Thursday, November 27, 2008

Sling serves up more video...on the Web. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Sling Media... made its name with the Slingbox....a device that hooks up to your home network....and your cable or satellite box....and allows you to watch you TV channels from anywhere via the Internet...even on some mobile phones. Now the company....which was acquired by EchoStar last year....is expanding its reach...with a new Sling.com Web site. Sling's Brian Jaquet....

"What we're looking at is a wide variety of content from an entertainment perspective, from a news perspective, from an information perspective, that is all melded into one Web site, giving users access to both clipped content and full episodic content from both current television, classic television, as well as current events and maybe some lesser known things."

There's content from NBC, Fox and CBS...and a limited number of full length movies as well.. Anyone can use the site which is even more valuable to Slingbox owners....

"We've embedded a Sling player client into Sling.com. Your Slingbox will show up in the Web site and you can access your home television."

You can control your cable or satellite box or DVR as well. Previously, you needed to download an application from Sling to do that. You can find more information at Sling.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
