Personalized TV in the Palm of Your Hand

Techstination feature for Tuesday, December 9, 2008

Personalized the palm of your hand. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. MobiTV has been a pioneer in bringing TV onto mobile phones....having been around for five years and is behind SprintTV and other services as well. It's used by about five million subscribers. Now it is finding a way to merge video and unique ways...with a service called Mobi4Biz. Available initially on BlackBerry Bold handsets, it includes the leading business TV channels...and says Senior VP Ray DeRenzo...

"What's unique about the application is the ability for you as a subscriber to personalize the application. So you can go in, create a watch list of companies that you're interested in tracking. It's very easy to do on the device. And once that watch list is created, all of the video on demand content is filtered and sorted and delivered to you, against your watch list. So an example would be you have Apple Computer in your watch list, there's breaking news with regard to Apple Computer, we present thumbnails of the video on demand content to engage with that content immediately."

MobiTV plans to expand the availability of Mobi4Biz onto other BlackBerry handsets and eventually other smartphones as well. The real breakthrough here...

"You're acting as the programmer effectively, not MobiTV. We're enabling the delivery of the content but you're specifying the content that's most relevant to you."

Mobi4Biz is priced at about ten dollars a month through AT&T. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
