New Features in Digital Frames

Techstination feature for Wednesday, December 10, 2008

New features in digital frames. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. You can find lots of good deals this holiday season on digital frames. They provide a great way to share digital photos....without having to use a computer. With the competition between the makers of frames so intense...some are adding features to differentiate their products. At Smartparts, which has been in the digital frame business for six years, President Stefan Guelpen says the company's latest model...wirelessly connects to the Internet....

"The WiFi technology, our frame actually has a built in email address. So as soon as you connect it to your WiFi network, you can actually email pictures to that frame. So from anywhere in the world, you take a picture, either on your cell phone or from your computer, and email it to the pre-defined email address on the frame, and it will show up on your frame within 30 seconds. And that's really the essence of picture sharing...be able to update the frame that I gave to somebody else or my friends and family. I'll be able to update that frame at any given time there's new pictures. And it's no fee involved, it's free. All you need to have is a WiFi access point."

SmartParts is not the first to incorporate WiFi into a digital frame...but its implementation is among the best. Not only can photos be emailed to the frame....it also integrates with Windows Live...so the frame can display news, traffic and weather information in addition to pictures. The SPX8WF eight inch frame sells for about 150 dollars. And that's just the start...a giant 32 inch WiFi connected digital frame is also in the works. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
