AMD Hopes its Dragon Breathes Fire

Techstination feature for Tuesday, January 27, 2009

AMD hopes its Dragon...will breathe fire into its lineup. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It's a new processor aimed at the gaming PC market...dominated by computers using Intel chips. AMD's Dragon aims to make those PCs more affordable....with Dell announcing a machine that will sell for under a thousand dollars. AMD senior VP Randy Allen says that and the company's new Yukon processor for notebooks can attract customers looking for ways to save money in a tough economy...

"Dragon provides an outstanding, high performance gaming and high definition entertainment platform. And it's just unprecedented there would be a personal computer with that level of capability on the market for under a thousand dollars. And I think that in today's economy, there are many that want to have the capabilities of that Dragon platform, but historically that's cost them 15 hundred dollars or more in order to purchase that type of system. And with the Dragon platform now they can purchase it for under a thousand dollars. I think that's a key win for us. Likewise, if you look at that Hewlett Packard DV2 machine, it's an ultra portable, mobile notebook. It competes with other systems out there in the market from other manufacturers, that may be well over 15 hundred dollars. And yet it's going to be brought to market at a starting price point of 699 dollars."
