Making an external hard drive...a lot more useful. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. External hard drives have been growing in capacity and shrinking in price. A 1 terabyte drive can be found for a little over a hundred dollars. Now a start up company called Cloud Engines...has announced a little device called the Pogoplug....that promises to give you access to your external drives...from anywhere. The company's Jed Putterman...

"Pogoplug is a 79 dollar device that takes any external drive that you attach to it and makes it instantly available anywhere on the Internet for your own personal use and also for sharing with friends and family."

There are a number of network attached storage drives on the market that let you connect from outside the home....the difference here...is simplicity...

"There's two ports in the back. There's one Ethernet port that you put into your home router. The other is a USB port that you attach an external disk drive into. You plug it into the wall and that's it. You then go to My.Pogoplug.com, you type in a registration ID, which is a sticker on the side of the Pogoplug and your email address, and that's it. There's no other configuration, no downloads, it's available at that point."

It can be accessed from wherever you have an Internet connection....by logging in from a browser on a notebook or desktop computer or even through an application for iPhones.
