Learning the Hard Way...

Techstination feature for Monday, February 9, 2009

If you aren't backing up your data, it could be costly. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Lots of people don't do it until they learn the hard way. There are lots of solutions on the market for backing up your data....whether it's your collection of family photos.....your transactions...or that book you've been working on. The latter was the case for Dyan Parker....

"What happened was I'm an author, I wrote a book. And just as I was putting the finishing touches on that book, I began to hear clicking on my computer and the screen went black. I smelled some burning and I instantly called the computer manufacturer who said turn it off, don't turn it back on and we will find you the best recovery service."

Parker's book was salvaged by now she is employed as the company's chief performance officer. So...recovering whatever you have on your hard drive after a crash is often possible...but it can be expensive....costing hundreds of dollars or more. The recovery process can be complicated....and time consuming. So the advice....once

"If there's one single thing that people should's back up."

Whether it's to an external hard drive, optical discs...or using one of the online services that can back up your files...automatically. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
