Ford counts on Sync to get back in the swim. Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Ford Motor Company says it has become clear that technology helps to sell cars. At the Consumer Electronics Show this month, the carmaker announced an update to the Sync platform which it created with Microsoft....that allows vehicle owners to control their mobile phones, music players and more...by voice. Ford's President for the Americas Mark Fields...
"These days one of the most important items for every person out there is their cell phone. And Sync allows for the seamless integration of a cell phone into the vehicle. Therefore it makes people's lives easier for a piece of equipment that they're using everyday. So it's all about making people's lives easier and making sure that the vehicle helps them do that."
Here at the Consumer Electronics Show, you've said that Sync equipped vehicles at dealers are selling twice as fast as non-Sync vehicles...
"Yeah that's correct. We've seen a huge, huge demand for Sync, even beyond our initial expectations. Vehicles that are equipped with Sync are moving off our dealers' lots at twice the rate of non-equipped vehicles. So it's showing that this feature is really resonating with customers."
While Sync is an option....Ford is saying buyers will get three years of service for free. Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
