Tech Toy With a Cause... Hasbro's Zambi

Techstination feature for Tuesday, March 31, 2009

A tech toy...with a cause. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology Boot Camp, a report on gadgets and gear. It is the latest toy in Hasbro's Furreal Friends line of robotic pets. Meet Zambi the Baby Elephant...chock full of sensors and chips...

"He has sensors on his back. He also has a sensor on his trunk. He can curl his trunk around your finger and shake your hand."

Hasbro's Nicole Moss. But when Zambi the Baby Elephant arrives on store shelves this will do more than your typical toy...

"He is very special because he is the symbol of Project Zambi, which is a global cause initiative launched by Hasbro to help support children in Africa who are orphaned by Aids. And Hasbro is going to donate fifty percent of its net profits from the sales of Zambi to help support this cause."

The toymaker says its minimum donation will be half a million dollars. Not exactly peanuts. You can find us at I'm Fred Fishkin.
