Are you banking with your mobile phone? I'm Fred Fishkin with technology Boot Camp, a report on gadgets and gear. There's more reason than ever these days to keep tabs on your money. And that mobile phone you carry around with you day and night can be pretty useful at doing that. Bank of America senior VP Doug Brown says... more consumers are making use of mobile banking...
"We saw 300 percent growth from 2007 to 2008. And currently now we have 2.2 million active mobile banking customers at Bank of America."
The bank has specific applications developed for the iPhone and iPod Touch along with apps for Blackberries and Google's Android mobile operating system.
"It allows people to do most of their banking needs. So it allows them to access all of their account balance information. Then we offer the capability to do bill payment from your mobile phone as well as transfer funds to your own accounts or to other customers of Bank of America."
Brown says your account information is password protected and none of the information gets stored on your phone. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
