A digital music player...with no PC required. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology Boot Camp, a report on gadgets and gear. Why has Apple been so successful with the iPod? Just about anyone can pick one up and use it. The user interface is simple, elegant and fun. But to get music onto your iPod, you have to connect it to iTunes on either a Mac or PC. That is where SanDisk hopes to find some vulnerability in Apple's armor. It's new slotRadio player comes preloaded with a thousand songs from the charts of Billboard...covering a variety of styles.
What about the player itself.... It is small...maybe an inch and a half square...with an LCD screen, a built in clip and a minimal number of buttons for navigation and volume control. Navigation though is one of the shortcomings of the slotRadio player. On the plus side, there is a built in FM radio. The price... about a hundred dollars. You can find us at BootCamp.com.
