Is G.M.'s future a Segway with seats? I'm Fred Fishkin with technology Boot Camp, a report on gadgets and gear. If you've ever stood on a Segway....those auto-balancing electric scooters....you know what a marvel of engineering it is...and how much fun it can be. Still, they haven't become the world changing invention that inventor Dean Kamen had hoped for. But now Segway is collaborating with General Motors on what they call Project PUMA -- or Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility. It's kind of like a Segway with two seats and a roof. Segway's Eric Fleming...using two wheels...makes it different from other electric vehicles....
"That really gives you some unique benefits such as incredible maneuverability. You know it is battery operated which makes it extremely energy efficient. "
Segway and G.M. aren't saying when the tiny vehicles might be manufactured for sale to the public or how much they might cost. They are promising an updated prototype this fall. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
