Making phone calls with an iPod Touch. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology Boot Camp, a report on gadgets and gear. The iPod Touch is basically an iPhone....minus the phone....and thus minus any contracts and monthly bills. It can connect to the Internet when you're within range of a WiFi signal....and besides playing music and video....and displaying your digital photos.....can connect to the Apple App Store allowing you to download thousands of games and other applications....many of which are free. One of the new apps....available is none other than Skype. You can use it to call other people using Skype for free....anywhere in the world. And if you are willing to pay a couple of cents a minute...you can call any kind of phone. It works with iPhones...only on WiFi...not using AT&T's data network....or on the iPod Touch....but you will need an iPhone headset....equipped with a microphone. If you want to take it a step further....you can get a phone number for your Skype account. It essentially turns your iPod Touch into a phone...as long as you have access to the Internet. You can find us on the Web at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
