Sony keeps the Playstation 2 alive and kicking. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology Boot Camp, a report on gadgets and gear. The latest new family oriented video game console. That's the way Sony is positioning the Playstation 2....the game machine that will soon reach the ripe old age of ten with nearly 137 million sold. Sony has dropped the price to 99 dollars, one third the original price. Director of hardware marketing John Koller says consumers...are already responding to the price cut and so are game developers...
" The development spigot's running hot and we're looking at probably 70 to 80 titles launching this year and about the same number next year. And we have some visibility into 2011, some titles then. So it doesn't look like the PS2 is going to slow down any time soon."
Koller says Sony isn't worried that the 99 dollar PS2 will eat into sales of the more expensive Playstation 3. He says about 80 percent of PS3 owners...have owned a PS2. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
