Iconic Toy Heads for Movie & Video Game Screens

Techstination feature for Friday, May 1, 2009

Another iconic toy prepares to become a movie...and a video game. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology Boot Camp, a report on gadgets and gear. Forty five years after GI Joe action figures arrived on toy shelves....he arrives on the big screen again this summer....and on video game machine screens as well. Double Helix creative director David Msika has been working on GI Joe Rise of Cobra...due to be released by Electronic Arts when the movie is released in August....

"So the biggest challenge to make this game was to be able to appeal to the people who played with these toys back in the days as well as the people that just like to play video games or the people that just watched the movie and want to relive the adventures with the characters. At the same time we didn't want to follow the story line of the movie because we wanted to have that what's going to happen next element to the story line. So what we did is we took an original story line that picks up where the movie leaves off."

The goal is to make GI Joe the game appeal....to multiple generations. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
