User created content is all over the Internet. How much is it worth? I'm Fred Fishkin with technology Boot Camp, a report on gadgets and gear. It's a project that has been in the formation stages at Princeton University for about a year and a half. It is called Sharing-Mart. And the idea, says associate professor of electrical engineering, Dr. Mung Chiang...
"Is to allow monetization of user generated content, together with user profile based targeted advertising. So at a very high level what it does is to create a market place that allows users to trade and price and exchange their content with a price tag."
The plan is to use virtual money which can be exchanged for the real thing...sort of like chips in a casino. Trials have been taking place among students at Princeton and with backing from Optimo Financial Services in Abu Dhabi Sharing-Mart is in the process of being commercialized. You can listen to the full interview with Dr. Chiang at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
