Life saving technology in your car. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology Boot Camp, a report on gadgets and gear. GM's OnStar has been around for years....connecting vehicles equipped with the technology to live operators ...who, among other things, can notify emergency operators in the event of an accident. Now, after working with the Centers for Disease Control on the types of additional data that would be valuable, OnStar will be adding what is called Injury Severity Prediction technology. OnStar president Chet Huber says...
"By doing that, if it's a severe crash, the chances of the crash victim surviving these serious events are improved by 25 percent. And so it is kind of the next step and time means everything in these crash situations."
Huber says the data on crash severity will come from sensors that have been added to cars for other purposes...and will be available to OnStar advisors early next year. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
