And one of the tools that campaign manager David Plouffe employed ...was social networking...along with email, text messaging and the Web...

"Creating our own social networking site was probably one of the big breakthroughs. And we obviously had big presences on all the social networking sites externally. But I think none of that mattered without the intensity that millions of Americans brought to the campaign."

Plouffe, who is writing a book about the campaign, remains involved in using technology to muster support for issues such as health care reform. And what we saw in the last election...is just the beginning...

"I think the important thing is you've got to reach people where they live. Some people are living all of their lives online."
