Portable Hard Drives That Can Take a Beating

Techstination feature for Monday, June 22, 2009

Portable hard drives that can take a beating. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Iomega calls them eGo. A line of portable hard drives...that can connect to Macs and PCs and feature a triple interface...USB 2.0 and both types of FireWire. That can be handy on laptops where connection ports are often at a premium But global product manager Ralf San Jose says what really sets the drives their ruggedness...

"Portable hard drives are subject to drop, because they're portable. So one of the things that Iomega did is to have a very robust drop spec since the drives might fall and you want your data to be intact and still on the hard drive. Iomega has a drop spec up to 51 inches."

The slim, stylish drives come in four capacities ranging from 250 to 500 gigabytes...with prices starting at under a hundred dollars. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at I'm Fred Fishkin.
