The coolest new digital SLR camera from Nikon. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology Boot Camp, a report on gadgets and gear. It is surprising small and light and is packed with lots of features for the price. Nikon's D5000 has a swiveling LCD screen...great for taking pictures from low or high angles....a 12.3 megapixel sensor...and can shoot video clips in 720p high definition. For an SLR in the 800 dollar price range...that's a lot of camera for the money. Nikon senior technical manager Lindsay Silverman says it is designed with menus and options to make it simple for consumers to transition from a point and shoot camera...to a higher quality SLR...
"It's got 19 automatic scene modes. And it can do an amazing amount of different things from high key shooting to low key to a mode we call pet portrait mode. "
Keep in mind...the video mode will not use the camera's autofocus, and is not really designed to take the place of a good camcorder. You can find us with archives, interviews and more...at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
