Roller Mouse Free... Ergonomic Pointing

Techstination feature for Monday, June 29, 2009

Falling into the trap of a better mouse. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology Boot Camp, a report on gadgets and gear. Contour Design has been in the business of ergonomics for years...designing computer products aimed at reducing repetitive strain injuries. The latest is called the Roller Mouse Free. It looks like a wrist rest with a metal bar in the front that holds a sliding roller. The idea says chief operating officer Jim MacDonald....

"The first're no longer reaching to one side, called asymmetrical reaching. And that prevents pain in your shoulder and neck. The second advantage is you use a flatter hand, you're no longer clutching a mouse and gripping a small device. And that saves stress with the carpal tunnel. The third advantage, since it's located right underneath the home keys of the keyboard, it allows you to have ambidextrous use."

The Roller Mouse Free works right out of the box with PCs and Macs. The price ... about two hundred dollars. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at I'm Fred Fishkin.
