Verizon Adds Free WiFi

Techstination feature for Wednesday, August 5, 2009

Verizon adds free WiFi. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. They aren't the first Internet provider to do it, but Verizon is now offering subscribers to its high speed Internet service free access from thousands of WiFi hotspots. The service is being provided by Boingo. Who is eligible? VP Eric Rabe says DSL or FIOS customers in all but the lowest tier of service. Connections, he says, are simple...

"What we are asking our customers to do is simply download a little piece of software that goes right on their computer and when they are in a WiFi hotspot enabled area, they'll get a pop up on their machine that says you can connect, do you want to? You click it and away you go. That's all there is to it. "

Sorry... the hotspot access is only for notebook computers...and not other devices...like WiFi capable mobile phones. You can find us with archives, interview and more...at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin
