Using Tech to Sell Cars... Ford

Techstination feature for Tuesday, August 18, 2009

It may not be as important as getting a few thousand dollars from Washington....but technology can help to sell cars. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Ford is making a feature called MyKey standard equipment on the new 2010 Focus and Taurus...and it is coming to other models as well. MyKey lets parents ...for instance...give young drivers in the family a pre-programmed car key. Ford's director of electronics systems engineering Jim Buczkowski...

"For example, they can set a speed warning at 45, 55 or 65 miles an hour. They can set the radio to a maximum of...around 45...50 percent of maximum volume and so on. And there's a few other settings as well. Maximum speed for the vehicle up to 80 miles an hour. And once those are set, the vehicle operates...using MyKey...within those limits."

How cool you think that is...may depend upon your age. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at I'm Fred Fishkin.
