New Logitech Mice Work on Glass

Techstination feature for Thursday, August 27, 2009

A mouse that can go where no mouse has gone before. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Logitech calls it Darkfield Laser Tracking. What it is...is technology that allows you to use a mouse on just about any surface...including glass or other high gloss desk or table tops. How does it work? Senior manager Greg Dizac ..

"This technology works with two independent lasers that shine on the surface. And on the glass surface you have some dust ...very small particles...that are refracting light on top of the surface. The small light that is deflected by the small particles can be picked up by our sensor. And that's how we track on the very smooth surfaces or very smooth, clear surfaces like glass."

It really does work...and the technology is arriving on the Logitech Performance Mouse MX...priced at about 100 dollars...and on the 80 dollar Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX. You can find us with archives, interviews and more ...at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
