Sally Ride Launching Kids Into Space.com

Techstination feature for Wednesday, November 10, 1999

The first American woman in space...is now leading the charge in cyberspace. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. It has been sixteen years since Sally Ride first journeyed into space aboard the Challenger. Today, she is the president of Space.com...

"Space.com is aiming to be the definitive web site for everything related to space. A site for anyone who is interested in space from astronauts to science fiction buffs. So we're covering space news, we're hitting education, information, entertainment, science fiction, space business. Essentially, our goal is that when you think of space, you'll think of Space.com."

Former TV financial guru Lou Dobbs is the chairman of the company, that is quickly becoming a great resource. The latest addition, a special section for kids. Dr. Ride says she still sees a lot of enthusiasm among young people for the space program...

"Space really touches something inside all of us and particularly inside kids. They're fascinated by it."

There is a lot of that kid in an awful lot of people and Space.com hopes to become a gathering place...

"Our goal is to build a community of people who are interested in, fascinated by and motivated by the space program."

The site again is Space.com.
