The e-book battle gets serious. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Sony has unveiled its new line of e-book readers....with features...including wireless connectivity...that make it more of a direct competitor to the Amazon Kindle. Sony is adding features like a touch screen....and a connection that will let readers download library books. Sony Electronics President Stan Glasgow says it's a category ready to take off...
"Touch capability is very important in this industry. But more important than that, it's the right thing for the environment, we're not using paper, the electricity consumption, the energy consumption usage by going to electronic books is a very positive thing for the world. Our children don't have to have fifty pounds of books in their backpacks. And the best companies will win."
Sony's Pocket Edition is priced at 199 dollars. The new wireless Reader Daily....will be about twice the price. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
