New hard drives that are big and fast. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Seagate calls it the Barracuda XT. A 2 terabyte hard drive that is capable of using a new 6 gigabyte per second serial ATA standard. What that means, says marketing director David Burks...is faster, smoother performance when it comes to applications like video editing on your PC...
"We're also seeing, for example, some good improvements in Microsoft media center systems. And these are entertainment focused OSs that stream a lot of data and video. And so that's another great example of an application that can really effectively use cache. But we expect gaming systems would be another benefactor of this technology."
The price...under three hundred dollars. The Barracuda XT can be used in existing PCs...but the big boost in performance will come from combining it with the new 6G interface standard. You can find us with archives, interviews and more...at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
