Here comes the Droid. I'm Fred Fishkin with Technology BootCamp a report on gadgets and gear.  The marketing push by Verizon Wireless is already in full swing. The new Droid smartphone...made by Motorola...is ready to take on Apple's iPhone. The handset is the first to use the new 2.0 version of Google's Android operating system and boasts a higher resolution screen than the iPhone, a thin slide out keyboard...for those who have problems with on screen typing... and access to a growing library of apps. Verizon's Cesar Da costa says another new feature is a notification panel that you can set up any way you'd like...

"If you get text messages, emails, text messages, application updates, really anything that's most relevant to you... it comes delivered to you."

A standard headphone jack, user replaceable battery and overall solid feel add to the appeal. As with other smartphones...you'll need both a voice and data plan to use the Droid...which is priced at about two hundred dollars with a contract.
