Should you pay for anti-virus software? I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Lots of people discover how important anti-virus software is....when it's too late. But with companies...including Avast, AVG,Panda and Microsoft...offering anti-virus products for free... does it pay to pay? Avast CEO Vince Steckler says, it depends on what you are using your PC for. The free Home Edition of Avast is fine for many people...
"It is a full fledged product and it is focused on users who use the Internet for Web browsing and email. If all they do is Web browsing and email, that product is perfectly fine and there's no need to buy a product from us or anyone else."
But says Steckler, who came to Avast from Symantec, if you are banking and shopping online, it is probably worthwhile to invest in more full featured protection. Pricing for Avast Professional starts at about forty dollars. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
