Turning Guitar Heroes into Real Guitar Players

Turning Guitar Heroes into real guitar players. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. The Guitar Hero and Rock Band video games have attracted fans of all ages who press buttons and strum in time to their favorite songs. And the popularity has generated interest among many in learning how to play the real instruments. A company called Optek Music Systems has been building technology into guitars they call FretLight. While they are real guitars...they also link via a USB connection to a PC or Mac...and says CEO Rusty Shaffer....built in lights on the guitars teach you where to place your fingers...

"So whatever the guitar player or guitar teacher, as it were, is playing in the video, it's lighting up on the Fretlight at home. So that teacher in the video is teaching you just as if you were sitting in the room with him."

Pricing for Fretlight guitars start at about 300 dollars and, says Shaffer, lower cost solutions are in the works. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
