These days there are more and more choices in cameras that can achieve that. Some are high end Digital SLR cameras...others are point and shoot. Panasonic's Lumix GF-1 is sort of a merging of the two. It has interchangeable lenses ...but is small and light. And it uses a format called AVCHD Lite for video. Product manager David Briganti...

The video, in 720p resolution....can be transferred to standard DVD discs...with high definition playback on Blu-ray DVD players. Panasonic has added the same AVCHD Lite video capability to two models of its point and shoot cameras as well... the ZS3 and the SZ35.
