FujiFilm Adding "Pet Detection" to Digital Cameras

Techstination feature for Wednesday, February 3, 2010

The latest digital camera feature.... pet detection. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. You've seen the face detection feature in digital cameras for a while now....allowing them to focus on people in a scene. Now FujiFilm is introducing new models that include pet detection. How does that work? Communications manager Diane Rainey...

"Well, similar to face detection for people, where the algorithms inside the camera are programmed to recognize certain breeds of cats and dogs. And many breeds as a matter of fact. It will focus in and make that the subject of the photograph."

And the recognition of different breeds helps with the focusing. The new Z700 EXR is among the cameras with the pet detection feature. The 12 megapixel camera also includes a 3 and half inch touch screen. It arrives next month for under 280 dollars.
