When should you book that flight? I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. There are lots of tools online to help with travel plans. I've been a fan of TripAdvisor for years. Microsoft's Bing is working to attract more users with some valuable travel planning features as well. Joel Grus is what Bing calls...a fareologist...and he is out with a forecast for Spring Break travelers...
"Well it's kind of a two sided sword. On one hand, air fare is actually up quite a bit this year compared with last year. What's happening is the airlines are cutting capacity and charging more. The flip side of that is that hotel rates are actually down quite a bit this year. Hotels obviously can't cut their capacity in the same way and so their prices are going down."
One way you can potentially save money on air fare, is by using Bing Travel's price predictor or its tool that lets you see how much more or less it will cost if you're able to shift travel dates. You can find us, this week with a chance to win a copy of Corel's X3 photo and video bundle... at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
