Samsung Makes 3D Deals

Techstination feature for Thursday, March 18, 2010

Samsung makes 3D deals. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Samsung has begun rolling out its 3D line of TVs and Blu-ray players and is partnering with Dreamworks. A Samsung 3D starter kit will include two pair of 3D glasses and a copy of the DreamWorks 3D animated movie Monsters vs. Aliens. And there will also be an exclusive for the Shrek series in 3D. How fast does Samsung think consumers will buy into 3D? Senior VP John Revie...

"In the U.S. market, our expectation on a calendar year basis we think size wise will be about a four million unit industry. To put that in perspective, when you look at large screen television, which is what we're talking about when we talk 3D, 40 inch and up screen sizes in the U.S. is about a 15 million unit industry for the U.S.. One out of four televisions will be 3D capable."

That's a pretty fast start. Like some other manufacturers...Samsung TV will convert regular 2D programs and movies to 3D...with a push of a button on your remote. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at I'm Fred Fishkin.
