Wireless Charging... More Convenience on the Way

Techstination feature for Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Wireless charging. More convenience is on the way. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Powermat, a company that made a pretty big splash with its launch last year of its wireless charging pad, has new technology on the way that will make its devices easier to use and more convenient. The way the Powermat system works now, you have to buy either a special case for your mobile device that lets you set it on the Powermat to charge or plug it in to a little block that sits on the Powermat. Global Marketing VP Beth Harrison Meyer says by mid-summer, there will be a new option...

"We've been able to miniaturize the technology to the point where we can put it into the battery and it gives us the ability to seamlessly integrate wireless charging into virtually any phone. So you will see Powermat upgrades to wireless charging for all the popular phones in the market."

Users will need to replace their batteries with ones that are Powermat enabled. A vehicle charger that will use the new technology is also in the works. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
