Techstination feature for Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Will you be moved by the new game controllers from Sony? I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Nearly four years after Nintendo changed the video game industry landscape with the Wii and its motion sensing controllers, Microsoft and Sony are set to deliver their replies this fall. Microsoft's Project Natal will use gestures without controllers. Sony has unveiled the PlayStation Move controllers...which use both Bluetooth and a camera for game play. There is a sub controller for two handed play. So how is the PlayStation Move so different? Sony Computer Entertainment senior researcher Richard Marks...

" It's very high speed, we're tracking with the camera at sixty frames per second and the data is sent very quickly to the system. Because we have that camera in there and also our inertial sensors that are on the inside are very high fidelity, we get a really completely different experience when you actually try it."

The PlayStation Motion package...including a camera...will sell for under a hundred dollars. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
