A new course for Need for Speed. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. It's been a top selling video game franchise for Electronic Arts for years. Now EA is getting ready to release Need for Speed World....for free. What's going on? Game producer J C Gaudachon....says the game is what is called a massively multi-player online title....for PCs. That means players will compete online....and EA intends to make money through add-ons....
"And some of it will be sold and some of it will be kind of won after the race. But basically the whole idea is, the philosophy is, micro-transaction is selling items to enhance your experience. Like you buy items to enhance your experience."
Need for Speed World is designed to work on everything from low power PCs to game machines with 3D capability. It's scheduled to officially arrive this summer. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
