A Twittering Alarm Clock? iHome's iA5

Techstination feature for Friday, April 23, 2010

A high five for the iA5. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. There are plenty of alarm clocks out there that also serve as docks for the iPod and iPhone. What SDI Technologies, maker of the iHome line, has done, is taken the concept to a new level. When you dock the iPhone with the iA5, it prompts you to download a free iHome and Sleep app. The phone or iPod Touch then gives you control over the alarm functions, creates a screen with weather info and updates from Facebook and Twitter if you choose. Product designer Andrew Skurdle...

"Really what it does is it's a way for us to harness the power of the iPhone OS and give new compelling features to our customers that we haven't been able to do before. And so we can use all of these new features."

The iA5, which sells for a hundred dollars, does not include an FM radio or remote. You can look for those features and more in future models that will also use the iHome and Sleep app. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
