More flexibility in portable hard drives. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Seagate calls it GoFlex. That's the branding for a new line of external hard drives, cables and adapters designed to allow the drives to be used with all kinds of connections. In addition...the GoFlex line includes a TV HD media player dock...and another designed to allow media on drives to be shared over a network and online. Another feature, product marketing manager Greg Falgiano says, allows drives to be more easily used by both PCs and Macs....
"So when you take a GoFlex drive and plug it into your Mac for the first time, it will ask you if you'd also like to use this with a PC. If you do choose to do that, it will install a small driver on your Mac computer. That will allow your Mac computer to both read and write to a GoFlex PC formatted drive."
Drive prices start at under one hundred dollars. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
