Curtain Goes Up on Theatre.com

Techstination feature for Wednesday, December 8, 1999

Want to see a show? Bring up the curtain on a website called Theatre.com. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. It has been in the business of developing web sites for many of the best known shows on Broadway. Now, theatre.com, that's theatre with an r-e, has evolved into a great resource for theatre events all over the world. CEO Toby Simkin...

"We have extensive news services that inform our customers of what's playing in theatres around the world and what's hot and where stars are traveling to and who's doing what. And we also have major North American listings with detailed comprehensive information on just about every show playing in almost every region across the country. That also includes deep links into ticketing information, appropriate souvenirs for those shows and cast information, photographs...."

The site is also home to what Simkin calls the world's largest Internet store for theatre goods. Everything from CDs to caps, mugs and t-shirts. Want to give someone tickets to a Broadway show but don't know which show to choose?

"The gift certificates that we sell are pretty unique. To the best of my knowledge, we're the only company that sells gift certificates that are available for any show in New York."

On or off Broadway. Membership in Theatre.com's Circle Club is free and offer's discounts for shows and hotels.
