Remote Control Flying Saucer... With No Remote

Techstination feature for Friday, June 11, 2010

A remote control saucer...without a remote. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Motion control is the new big thing in the video game world. It's also one of the fun features Spin Master has employed in a toy called the Air Hogs Vectron Wave. It is a Styrofoam flying saucer that you control with your body movement. How does it work? VP Harold Chizick....

"You turn on the saucer and it will start to spin. You then hold it by the antenna and put your hand under it like you're waving it and that calibrates it to recognize when there is something underneath the vehicle. So there's actually sensors. Using your hand, your head, your foot... that will keep it up in the air and keep it floating."

After a few minutes...you put it on the base to charge up again. That may tax the patience of some young kids. The price... under thirty dollars. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
