A hybrid hard drive for notebooks. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. Solid state drives for computers ...or SSDs...have a lot of advantages. They are faster and more durable that standard drives with platters that spin. The problem is, they are still very expensive. So Seagate has come out with a compromise...a new line of Momentus XT drives.... that include 4 gigabytes of solid state storage...that works along with the rest of the traditional drive. The result... significantly better performance at a reasonable price. Product marketing manager Joni Clark...
"This drive, the Momentus XT, gives you very close to that type of performance, but for a 500 gigabyte drive, you're going to pay more like 156 dollars. That's where we come in and say SSD like performance at a fraction of the price."
The solid state portion of the drive automatically stores the files you access most often. You can find more info at Seagate.com. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
