Android Arrives on Sprint Nextel Push to Talk Network

Techstination feature for Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Android at long last arrives on Sprint Nextel's push to talk network. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. There hasn't been a lot of choice for Sprint's Nextel push to talk customers when it comes to smartphones. There has been a Blackberry handset...and that's about it. But now, there's also the Android based Motorola i1...selling for about a hundred fifty dollars with a contract. Sprint Nextel director of business product marketing Jeff Adelmann....

"Not only do you get push to talk, the Nextel 2G network, but also WiFi and then a five megapixel camera on top of it. All combined with a rugged device in a very slim form factor."

Keep in mind that Nextel 2G network may seem agonizingly slow for Web browsing and downloads and such....so users may be doing a lot of hunting for WiFi. And the i1 also is using an older version of the Android OS. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
