Time to Pick a New BlackBerry

Techstination feature for Thursday, August 12, 2010

Time to pick a new BlackBerry. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. The latest BlackBerry from Research in Motion is officially on sale through AT&T. The Torch is the first BlackBerry to feature a touch screen and a slide out full keyboard. The 5 megapixel camera isn't what you would call spectacular by today's standards, but the photo management software is. And music on the device can be synced via WiFi. So why buy BlackBerry? RIM's chief technology officer for software, David Yach...

"A lot of people who are moving to these devices, this is their first smartphone. And what they're looking for, very simply, is a great communication device. They want to be able to take phone calls, do voicemail, do texting, and then learn how to do all the other stuff that smartphones can do. It's a great phone. It has the keyboard, so things like texting are wonderful."

The price, with a contract, is about 200 dollars. For BlackBerry fans, it's a reason to stop looking enviously at friends with newer Androids or iPhones. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at I'm Fred Fishkin.
