eBay's Specialized Apps for Smartphones

Techstination feature for Monday, August 23, 2010

Smartphones and eBay. I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. If you are one of the many folks who buy and sell on eBay, odds are you are already logging in on your mobile phone. But the online auction site and retailer is moving beyond that with specialized apps for smartphones. VP for mobile Steve Yankovich...

"We have a lot of people on eBay who always go after certain kinds of products. So we have fashion enthusiasts constantly looking at clothing, shoes and accessories. Or we have people buying vehicles. Hundred thousand dollar vehicles are purchased all the time through our mobile applications. And parts and accessories for cars. Sporting goods is another category, consumer electronics. So we're building applications purposely built for these people who focus on those product areas."

And there are some pretty neat features. The eBay fashion app, for instance, includes a virtual fitting room where you can use your own photo to see what the clothes will look like on you. You can find us with archives, interviews and more at I'm Fred Fishkin.
